Symptom

I canceled a domain. The domain has expired and is no longer linked to my website. I changed my mind and want to keep the domain and activate it again.

Solution

Terminated, expired (deleted) domains
are in most cases not immediately irrevocably deleted from the registry. Instead, they are in a transition phase, the “Redemption Grace Period” (RGP). The domains are only actually deleted after a period has expired and can then be re-registered by other interested parties.

While a domain is in the Redemption Grace Period, it can be restored by the registry for a fee and reassigned to the previous owner. The fee is set by the registry and varies depending on the domain ending. The length of the RGP also differs depending on the domain ending. Deadlines of 30 days after deletion of a domain and prices from [price] are common.

Some customers try to wait for the redemption grace period to expire in order to re-register the domain that is freely available on the market afterwards. With this they want to save the restoration price. Unfortunately, however, so-called “domain grabbers” very often grab expired domains that have become available again more quickly because they speculate on being able to sell these domains to the previous owner for a very high price. We therefore recommend that you accept the recovery price rather than the risk of losing a domain completely.

Canceled but not yet expired domains,
can continue to be used by you without any problems. Simply let us know that you would like to withdraw the cancellation. As long as a domain has not yet been deleted from the registry, it can remain active without interruption.
